Hockey Musings
I realize that when this post actually goes public, I will be a couple weeks removed from this weekend, but I want to share what is going on right now. Super Stuffy’s hockey team has finished the regular season in pretty good shape. They are entering the state tournament in fourth place – which honestly at the beginning of the season I didn’t think would be possible. To be honest, I am sincerely relieved that our hockey season is almost over.
I love watching Super Stuffy skate – he lights up on the ice, and I know this is probably coming from my partial mama side – he does a good job playing his position on the ice. But hockey takes up our entire life for four months. We have hockey practice at 8 PM every weeknight, and then games almost every weekend. Not to mention all of the “volunteer” work that we as parents need to do at the rink throughout the season.
End of season hockey tournament…
This weekend, we traveled for 4 1/2 hours to participate in a hockey tournament. The pressure is slightly less because it’s a tournament for fun, but the schedule is grueling. Our first game in this tournament took place at 7:30 this morning. Unfortunately, because we lost this morning, our next game is scheduled for 9 PM tonight. It’s been a long day. It’s hard to figure out what to do with all this extra time that we have in between our early morning game and tonight.
We tried to go bowling, but that didn’t pan out. The three of us went to Walmart, but for the most part we’ve been hanging around the hotel. We tried to rest this afternoon, but that didn’t work when our hotel room became “Nintendo Switch Central”
I am, at this moment, wishing for nothing more than to sleep for a couple of hours, but I don’t think that I would give up this time that Super Stuffy has had to spend time playing with his teammates. They are currently playing Super Smash Bros. and Super Stuffy is having a great time. I also love listening to them talk and banter back and forth. It is times like these that make the time commitment so worth it.
Super Stuffy can make friend where I have difficulty…
I enjoy this so much because I see Super Stuffy excelling at something that I never was really good at. I have never been a very social person. An introvert at heart, I feel very shy in groups of people. Watching Super Stuffy able to get along with friends and know that others actually enjoy spending time with him is such balm to my mama heart.
I know that Super Stuffy will not play professional hockey. He will likely not play hockey past high school, but tonight is one of those benefits of his involvement in our local hockey association. He is making friends, playing, and learning how to get along with others – especially during these hardest teenage years.
Now, I just have to get through the rest of this night without collapsing from exhaustion. Oh well. I can look forward to having next weekend free from hockey before we have our state tournament in two weeks.
